It was a rainy Saturday afternoon when Mourning Sound brought forth mayhem that shook the grounds of *SCAPE in Singapore last April 7, 2012. Some of the heaviest bands from Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, and the Philippines gathered at the basement of the bustling teenage hangout to deliver heavy music served right in front of the fans’ faces. The turnout was minimal with only the purest hardcore followers went & moshed as their heroes engaged Full Battle Order. Hardcores moshing with the metalheads, what made up for the small gathering led to a unity of fans in each genre. The venue looks brutal & raw, with only caution tapes cordoned-off to set the boundaries on what looks like a basement carpark.
The Philippines was represented by the one of the leading Pinoy heavy metal band in Manila, Intolerant. The band was formed in 2007 & is led by Skychurch frontman Russell Dela Cruz for guitars & vocals. Adding to the group is Philippines’ envoy for ESP Guitars, Joey Dizon, with Mic Gallegos on bass & Pepo Gohu on drums. I was so thrilled when I knew Intolerant was coming. I got to see Russell & his brothers as Skychurch when they performed at our school grounds 15 years ago along with their comrades Loads of Motherhood which marked as one of the best gigs I have ever seen.
I only brought 2 prime lenses, the Nikon 24mm 2.8D & 50mm 1.8D. I was firing at Manual shifting my shutter from 1/80 – 1/125 seconds. Aperture was set at f2.8 for the 24mm & f2 for the 50mm while ISO was stuck at 6400 as the place was generally dim.
My fellow pinoys were too shy to mosh as they kept their distance from the band so I have the front row all by myself along with a few of my photographer buds.
